Authors After Dark Author Spotlight Interview - Beth Williamson

Please welcome Beth Williamson as part of The Qwillery's Authors After Dark Author Spotlight Interviews.

TQ: What inspired you to become a writer?

Beth:  I have always been a writer. I recognized it in third grade and knew that was my path in life. It's taken some interesting turns along the way, including working as a journalist, poet, short story writer, technical writer and novelist. I draw inspiration from everything around me - a snippet of a conversation, an old house, the name of a town, even a sunset - all of them can start a kernel of an idea.

TQ: What is the most challenging thing for you about writing?

Beth:  Balancing my "real" job, my family and writing. If had had the freedom to, I would write books full-time but that's not possible at this point in my life. Eventually yes, but for now, I'm challenged to find the time to write. I have small windows that I have to dive in head first and take advantage of. Sometimes I write 15K in one weekend (and nearly fry myself in the process) but that's the choice I make. I love to write and I'd do anything to be able to continue doing it.

TQ: What writing achievement are you most proud of?

Beth:  I was nominated, twice, for the Lifetime Achievement Award in Erotic Romance by Romantic Times Magazine in 2009 and 2010 - that means a lot to me. Considering how many books they've read and authors? It's a huge honor, ginormous even!

TQ: What one thing should everyone know about your writing?

Beth:  My characters are real people - those with flaws, disabilities, problems, addictions, etc. I don't write about imaginary perfect people - I write about you and me and everyday people. When you read one of my books, the characters will be someone you can empathize with because of the real quality of who they are and what they struggle with.

TQ: Please tell us about your latest and upcoming works.

Beth:  2012 starts off in February with a brand new series from Brava, THE CIRCLE EIGHT: MATTHEW. This is the first book in the series - it is set in the 1830s Republic of Texas. MATTHEW releases in trade paperback/ebook first, then releases in mass market in July/August. It's also a Rhapsody Book Club pick in January. Book 2, BRODY, releases in July in trade paperback/ebook. In March, DEVILS ON HORSEBACK: GIDEON releases in trade paperback from Samhain. This is the fifth and final book in that series.

TQ: Thank you for joining us at The Qwillery.

Beth:  Thank you for inviting me!!

Gideon
Devils On Horseback 5
Samhain Publishing, March 6, 2012

Gideon Blackwood is on the run—from Tanger’s meddling matchmakers. With no intention of following the rest of the Devils down the aisle, he heads for the hills to reassess a life spent leading and caring for others…and runs smack into the business end of a shotgun. At the trigger: a curmudgeonly woman with a broken axle and a load of responsibility.

In Chloe Ruskin’s experience, men take what they want and leave a mess of trouble behind. The safety of two orphans and her granny is at stake, and the last thing she needs is Gideon’s “help”. This time, though, she has no choice but to allow the big cowboy to fix her wagon.

As they work into the night, grudging admiration grows into attraction—and desire. Gideon finds he can’t dig his boot heels in hard enough to avoid falling for the opinionated little female.

When Chloe’s family disappears, her suspicion threatens to destroy any spark of love before it catches fire. Gideon finds himself making promises his pride won’t let him break—even if it costs him the love of the woman who owns the missing half of his soul.
